Cora Lee's Lustre for Thread
Beeswax is great if you need a little lubricant for your thread or want to smooth down any fuzzies.
For some hand sewing projects, like needle-turn applique, you don't really need lubricant. But the motions you make with your thread can keep it constantly trying to twist back on itself. Which leads to knots. Groan. It's especially frustrating with fine threads such as silk or 60 wt or 80 wt cotton. Beeswax won't help this situation.
An itty bitty coating of silicone, however, creates an electrostatic charge that makes the thread repel itself as you stitch. In other words, it doesn't want to knot as much.
Simply draw your thread across the top of the silicone (it's sort of a stiff goo), applying a little pressure with your finger. Then run the thread between your thumb and finger to smooth it and you're all set!
Keep in mind, Thread Lustre doesn't replace beeswax or other lubricants. It is a thread conditioner, not a lubricant. But you may find that less twisty thread doesn't need beeswax.
100% silicone packaged in an impossibly cute, tiny aluminum watchmakers tin. Unscented but power packed.
