Silk bodice • Civil War era

This lovely is not in great shape and is definitely not robust enough to be mended and worn. The silk is very fragile - brittle and shattered in places. But I think it would be an excellent item to study for someone interested in historical costume (in fact that's exactly what I did with it when I acquired it!) - the construction, the fine unique trim, the original wood boning. It's a thing of beauty.
I would guess it was worn by a teenage girl or a very small woman. One portion of the underlining has machine stitching but the bodice appears mostly hand stitched.
