Canvas Market Bag
Handmade bags are so wonderful, but sometimes you just want to display some needlework or a graphic design without the hassle of sourcing bag-making supplies.
Canvas market bags to the rescue!
I'm thrilled with the high quality of these pre-made canvas market bags. They are made of durable mid-weight cotton canvas - which means you can dye them, add iron-on media to them, easily wash them, etc. The inner seams are finished with binding and the handles are faced for sturdiness. There is even an inner pocket.
With a sturdy needle and a thimble, you can handstitch directly on the bags, although I would recommend doing any extensive handwork on a separate piece of fabric and then appliquéing it on. They are, however, a breeze going through your sewing machine. This makes quick work of attaching appliqués, etc.
I've thought of dozens of projects to showcase on market bags! Hand embroidery, orphaned quilt blocks, fabric collages, screenprints and gelli prints, cross stitch and needlepoint, small fabric panels... the list goes on. They are also an excellent surface for fabric paints and other fun mediums.
Size is roughly the same as a large plastic grocery sack, with longer handles. About 15 x 16 in or 38 x 41 cm. Full disclosure: the woman on the packaging must be child-sized or the victim if insidious photoshopping; the bags are not that large in comparison with the average human.
