*LIMITED EDITION* Turnip of Hope Gift Set
The Turnip of Hope is a sentient patchwork turnip. They were born on the Quilt Nerd Show, made by Stephanie Cake (me!), now reside with a very fine person (the "Gardener"), and currently broadcast good vibes from their Instagram.
This delightful gift set includes:
- Turnip of Hope charm
- Turnip of hope glitter sticker (don't worry, it's holographic mylar, not actual glitter!)
- Fat quarter of Ruby Star Society's Petunia Turnip print in the Smoke colorway
The Turnip has given me their blessing to sell Turnip Merch to help support my quilt history research and give back to the organizations I am working with. Proceeds from Turnip Merch sales cover my membership at two institutions and any additional profit will be donated directly to the Baltimore Museum of Art, where the Dunton Quilting Collection is held. You also have several options to include an additional donation amount if you would like.
Shipping is FREE for U.S. purchases! International friends: $5 will be added to your purchase for shipping.
Cool, cool. But what's the story with the Turnip?
On the Quilt Nerd Show, we learned about Margit Echols - a designer and author. Her book, A Patchwork Christmas, features a number of lovely quilt and sewing projects in red and green.... and a huge chapter that includes her pattern collection of patchwork fruits and vegetables.
I made one of the turnips as a holiday giveaway for a December 2022 Quilt Nerd Show. It was my assertion that, if Margit Echols could get fabric turnips into a Christmas quilting book, then ANYTHING is possible! And thus, the seed of the Turnip of Hope was born.
By the time the Turnip arrived at their destination - the Gardener's house - that seed had grown to full-blown sentience. The Turnip immediately started an Instagram account to champion the Quilt Nerd Show and spread their vegetal good cheer far and wide.
If you would like to make your very own Turnip of Hope, you'll need Margit Echols' book! Get it from Abebooks, using the Quilt Nerd link (note - Mary @ Quilt Nerd Show receives a small commission from your purchase. This doesn't affect your purchase price.) : https://quiltnerd.link/christmasfabricfruit
Margit also sold her veg/fruit patterns on their own in yhe 1980s. Search Etsy or eBay for those vintage copies!
